Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
Before Surgery
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery (including gum, juice, coffee, or water).
- Eat a light, easily digestible meal the night before surgery.
- Wear comfortable clothing with short sleeves and flat shoes. No make-up or jewelry. Please wear hair loose, no clips, ponytails, or buns.
- If you take blood pressure medication and have discussed this with Dr. Subedar, take your medication with a small sip of water.
- Patients must be accompanied by a responsible escort, who will stay during their surgery and drive them home.
- Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Thoroughly brush your teeth and rinse your mouth before arrival.
- Be prepared with necessary items to remove contact lenses prior to surgery if not removed before coming to the appointment.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages the night before surgery.
After Surgery
- Numbness will remain from local anesthesia for 1-3 hours.
- Consume only cool, soft, nutritious foods. No hot, warm, or carbonated beverages.
- Avoid smoking for a minimum of 10 days.
- Have an ice pack available.
- Arrange for an attendant to drive you home and remain with you for a minimum of 4-8 hours after surgery
- Remain at home and rest for at least 24 hours.
- Driving/using heavy equipment should be avoided for at least 24 hours.
- Depending on the extent of surgery, exercise and sports should be avoided for up to a week
